How our video process works, from first call to final cut
We get asked fairly often: what does the process actually look like? How long does it take? Who do I speak to? What do I need to have ready?
It's a fair question, and we thought it was worth writing down properly. So here's an honest look at how a project with Motion One tends to unfold, from that first conversation to the moment we hand over the finished film.
-
We start with a conversation. Not a form, not an automated intake process, an actual conversation. We want to understand what you're trying to make, who it's for, and what you need it to do. Sometimes clients come to us with a very clear brief. Other times they have a rough idea and need help shaping it. Both are completely fine. This stage is really about making sure we both understand the goal before we start planning anything.
-
Once we know what we're making, we build the plan around it. That means working out the shoot schedule, sorting locations, putting together the crew, writing scripts or shot lists if the project needs them, and generally making sure nothing is left to chance on the day. We share this with you so you can see exactly what's happening and flag anything that needs adjusting. Good pre-production is honestly where most of the work happens. A well-planned shoot almost always leads to a smooth one.
-
On production day, we handle everything. Camera, sound, lighting, direction. You don't need to manage the crew or think about the technical side of things. What we find works best is when clients can just be present, whether that's appearing on camera, making sure the right people are available, or simply being around in case decisions need to be made quickly. We've shot in boardrooms and living rooms, at conferences and in the field, with large teams and with a crew of two. The environment changes but the approach stays the same: calm, prepared, focused on getting what we need.
-
After the shoot, we go into the edit. This is where the footage gets shaped into something that actually tells a story. We take care of the cut, colour grading, sound design, music, motion graphics, and subtitles. It all happens in-house, so you're not dealing with multiple suppliers or trying to coordinate handoffs between teams. We handle it, and we keep you updated along the way.
-
When we have a first cut ready, we share it with you and ask for feedback. We try to make this part as straightforward as possible. You tell us what's working and what isn't, we make the changes, and we go again. We work until you're happy with it. That's genuinely what we care about at this stage. The goal is a final film that you feel good about sharing, not one you've just learned to live with.
A note on communication
One thing we hear from clients fairly regularly is that they were pleasantly surprised by how smooth the whole process felt. We think that comes down to communication more than anything else. We try to be clear about timelines, honest about what's possible, and responsive when questions come up. You shouldn't have to chase us for updates.
"Motion One is not only a very professional video production company, they are also wonderful to work with. They communicate well, understanding what needs to get done and deliver high quality work. Furthermore, they are patient and involved. I would recommend working with Motion One to anyone!"

That kind of feedback means a lot to us, and it reflects what we're actually trying to do on every project.
What kinds of projects do we work on?
We work on brand films, corporate interviews, NGO impact stories, social content, and documentaries. Our clients range from startups and scale-ups to larger organisations and foundations, mostly across Europe. The projects vary a lot in scale and format, but the process above stays pretty consistent across all of them.
If you're curious about working together or just want to talk through an idea, feel free to get in touch. We're based in Amsterdam and happy to connect wherever you are.
Have a project in mind? We'd love to hear about it.
